I live in Florida, and thinking of a 3 day weekend get away on short notice. There are several cheap airfares to cities available right now, and I’m totally open to almost any city of interest. I would prefer not to spend all of our time on a plane, so not as far as California or Seattle and such. I would prefer a locale that would not require a rental car to get around.
Thanks in advance!
In the past, we have enjoyed Washington, DC and Seattle, WA. Points of interest can be action packed, of historical note, or laid back and relaxing.
Now that the three-day Labor Day weekend has arrived in the USA, the Summer 2009 SP151 students described for family, friends, the HTIC learning community and our worldwide YouTube audience a favorite place each had visited or a recommended weekend getaway destination. A few students included pictures. Enjoy your end-of-summer holiday weekend! Happy Labor Day!
My boyfriend’s sister is getting married and she’s asked her maid of honor to throw her a weekend party. I’m accustomed to the one-night have fun party. So I replied to the e-vite that while I would love to go, when I hear the word weekend, all I can think of is a 2-3 day, hotel for two nights, going out for two nights, $$$$.
She (maid-of-honor) wrote back that she had thought of the budget issue to, but the bride wants a weekend getaway. She was thinking if all 8 girls went it would be each for hotel for 2 nights (8 people in one suite) and each for a spa package for the bride. This would be in addition to any spa services for myself + (if we all don’t buy SOMETHING for ourselves, then we are just standing there waiting for the bride to finish hers??), plus food and renting movies the first night +, and going out to a NICE dinner the second night +and then a club for dancing & drinking -50+? the second night as well. Also the place is almost 2 hours away so that’s around gas. Again, this is if all 8 girls go, and I know a couple have already declined because of short notice without hearing any of the plans. If only half of us go, the hotel and spa service for the bride DOUBLES.
I had mentioned in my original email that maybe I could go out for one night or one day instead of the whole weekend but that I couldn’t really make a decision without knowing at least some kind of price range. That’s when she wrote back with the above details she had so far.
I would honestly like to just join them for maybe dinner and dancing (like a normal party), but the location is 2 hours away from everyone (not just me), so I can’t really drive out there for the dinner and club and drive back
I really don’t want to be a party pooper but the bridesmaid dress cost 0 by itself and I still have to buy a wedding present. This was all very sudden as they announced the wedding and asked us to be bridesmaids only one month ago and the wedding is in another two months. In this lovely economy I can’t imagine I am the only person thinking this is going to be way too costly which is why I suspect some maids haven’t rsvp’d to the bachlorette party yet while others have confirmed that they can’t attend.
Am I being petty??
I know a lot of people go to Vegas for B-parties, so maybe this is the same kind of price range as that??
What is the most you would spend??
What would you do in my shoes??
I make enough money to live month to month while putting some cash in savings, but I am by no means rich or even well off.
I was thinking of emailing the maid of honor back and telling her:
"I suspected the plan would be in that kind of price range and its really something I can’t afford right now, especially with short notice for the wedding in general, and in this economy. I know I had said I could attend for a day or night, but didn’t realize it would be so far out of the way. I would however love to attend something local on a different day maybe the weekend before where we might be able to go out closer to home for any of the other girls that couldn’t make it out to the weekend thing?
My fiance and I are celebrating our 3 year anniversary next month and are having trouble coming up with some weekend getaway locations. We want it to be romantic but also have attractions and things to do. We are looking for mainly north eastern united states such as ohio, new york, virginia, and surrounding areas. Suggestions would be helpful, Thank you.
Awesome time that my husband & I spent in Granite Falls, to celebrate my birthday in March 2009. We stayed at this very nice B&B and visited the sorroundings. Lots of fun.

Lions love gifts that make them look and feel terrific. Hair accessories, cosmetics and grooming items are all good choices for this image-conscious sign. Leos love drama, and enjoy presents that involve a bit of flair. Opera tickets, gold jewelry or animal print lingerie are right up this cat’s alley. Leos also love to gamble, so a sheaf of lottery tickets or a weekend getaway to the casino could make them purr with delight. When shopping for clothing, remember that Lions have a special affinity for red, gold and purple.
