I am trying to surprise my girlfriend on Valentines Day/ Presidents Day weekend with a trip to Vegas. I want to get at least a 4 star hotel without paying over 0 a night. I was thinking online deals would be best but any other suggestions (travel agent etc.) would be greatly appreciated.
I found out about a month ago that my ex, whom I thought I would marry, has been sleeping with my supposed best friend. My ex and I are both 25, and she’s 28. He broke up with me on my birthday and the same weekend as my graduation from law school (in May). My supposed best friend was there for me, telling me the usual "you deserve so much better," "he’s not worth your time," "what a jerk," etc. that any good girlfriend would say. Well, fast-forward three months, and now she’s got her claws in him. I’m shocked, appalled, and disgusted.
To move beyond this, my family decided to go on vacation. So, here I am, in the French Riviera, with my family, and all I think about is how much it sucks that I don’t have someone special to have a romantic getaway with here. In fact, recently, all I can think about is the two of them together. I wake up in the morning thinking it’s all just a terrible dream, and then, reality sets in. HOW CAN I GET OUT OF THIS FUNK?!?!

Here’s the situation. My anniversary is in August and I booked a little weekend getaway for my and my husband (he doesn’t know about it) and my mom was going to watch the kids for the weekend. My kids are 7 and 3. Anyway, my grandmother has been very sick lately in the hospital and it’s really not a good time to leave my kids with my mom – she’s at the hospital everyday and when she’s home she’s usually waiting for phone calls from doctors, etc.
Anyway, the hotel is in Key West (we live in S. Florida so it’s a car ride). I already paid for it (I could get the money refunded). Do you think I should still go and take the kids and just enjoy a family weekend getaway or just cancel it, don’t tell my husband and plan it for a better time. The hotel was pretty expensive – but I was really looking forward to going.
I really don’t have anyone else I could leave the kids with for a whole weekend.
I love to travel and I have a goal of visiting all 50 states and all 7 continents before I die. I figure I might have to go on some weekend getaways to see all I want to see, since actual vacations days will be slim. What I am wondering is, if I work a normal 9-5 job, and live in Louisville, KY, what is the furthest I could reasonably plan a weekend trip? Basically, if I were to leave Friday night and come back Sunday night for work Monday, I want to make sure I am spending enough time at my destination to really enjoy it. (and not spend all my time driving or flying).
Let’s assume I have money and can either fly or drive and can afford the trip in itself. i’m just asking about time-wise.
